Sad but true.
Every day I scroll through the news, murag recurring nightmare na lang ang makita. Karun, it’s about the flood control corruption. Billions of pesos supposedly meant to protect us from baha, pero gi-bulsa ra diay. Contractors naming names, senators grandstanding, and people filling the streets to protest. For a while, it feels like change is within reach. Makalagot, makaguol, pero makahatag pud ug gamay’ng hope nga maybe—just maybe—someone will finally be punished.
Pero let’s be real. Kinsa may napreso sa una? Who actually paid for their crimes? Ang kasakit ani, I can already see the ending. Dili ni moabot ug klaro nga conclusion. The headlines will fade, the hearings will drag, new scandals will surface, and this whole circus will die down. Again. And again.
It hurts to admit, pero mao gyud ni ang tinuod. No one will be held accountable.
This isn’t the first time, and it won’t be the last. Naay Pharmally scandal sa panahon sa pandemic—billions of pesos para sa face shields ug masks nga overpriced, gi-dispose pa gyud dayon.
Naa pud tong Yolanda Aid nga hangtod karon murag dili gyud klaro kung asa napadulong ang funds, bisan daghan kaayong namatay ug nag-antos. Naa pai relief goods na gipang labay ug gipang sunog nalang kay napan-os na ug na-expire.
Same with the Sendong Aid, Iligan and CDO still remember the pain, daghang balay na-wash out, daghang pamilya nawala, ug sa kadugayan murag hangin ra ang nahibilin.
And let’s not forget ang drugs issue sulod mismo sa Bilibid. Imagine, ang prisohan mismo nahimong merkado sa shabu. Guards, inmates, officials—all part of it. Fast forward, kinsa may accountable? Walay klaro.
Kani tanan, tanan natong kasuko, tanan natong paningkamot to demand justice—wala ra gyud. Murag gi-erase lang sa atong collective memory.
Ang problema: the Cycle of Forgetting
It’s a painful pill to swallow, pero mao gyud ni ang cycle sa atong nasud: scandal, outrage, investigation, limelight, then silence. Ang mga tawo mapul-an, ang media mo-shift sa bag-ong issue, and we go back to our lives. Until another tragedy, another billion lost, another corruption scandal comes out.
Yes, naa koy kasuko. Pero mas bug-at ang kahadlok nga this flood control scandal will just end up the same way. Billions gone. Zero accountability. Ug kita ra gihapon ang mag-antos sa baha, literally and figuratively.
Sure ko, wai mahitabo. Even kaning pag cancel sa mga nepo babies sama nilang Jammie “High-Waist Troll Princess” Cruz, Gela “Political Dynasty” Alonte, Ellias “Pisting Rapper/Fashion CEO” Co, Claudine “Ilong Gi Agi-an Sa Pison” Co, ug uban pa, wala ra ni. Social media detox lang sa for the mean time, pero pag lipas sa panahon, back to regular uploads na dayon.
Sometimes I wonder: is this really just our fate? Or are we simply too tired to fight the same fight over and over?
