Filipino-owned Emperador Buys Mexico’s Top Brandy

After two landmark purchases of European liquor brands last year, the world’s largest brandy company, Emperador Distillers Inc, is now expanding to America

As part of its aggressive global expansion, Filipino liquor company Emperador, which is now considered to be the world’s largest brandy company, through its Spanish subsidiary Bodegas Las Copas, is purchasing the Domecq brandies and wines of Pernod Ricard in Mexico. The landmark buyout includes Mexican brandy brands Presidente, known to be Mexico’s No. 1 selling brandy, Azteca de Oro and Don Pedro.

This gives Emperador access to the brandy market in Latin America, particularly Mexico where the Domecq brandies take half of the entire brandy market. Latin American countries have over 600-million population to date.

“This recent acquisition fits perfectly with our strategy to fortify Emperador’s status as the no.1 brandy company in the world,” says Winston Co, president, Emperador, Inc.

“The entry into Mexico will strengthen Emperador brandy global position through Presidente brandy, which is Mexico’s no. 1 locally produced brandy,” adds Richard Lañeda, senior analyst, COL Financial Group.

Just in February this year, Emperador also completed the purchase of the brandy and sherry businesses of Beam Spain, S.L., which include four iconic brands – Fundador, the oldest and largest Spanish brandy in the world; Terry Centenario, the No. 1 brandy in Spain; Tres Cepas, the largest selling brandy in Equatorial Guinea; and Harveys, the no. 1 selling sherry wine in the world.

Emperador also operates a global Scotch whiskey business, which Emperador bought in 2014. Whyte and Mackay has a rich heritage of Scottish spirits, which is the fifth largest Scotch whiskey manufacturer in the United Kingdom with prestigious brands like The Dalmore, Jura Single Malt Whisky, Mackinlay’s Shackleton Malt Whisky, Whyte & Mackay Scotch Whisky, Vladivar Vodka, among others.

Emperador brands are available in 100 countries around the world.

  5. Ok…so I saw this on Pinterest today and read it very cynical…..no way could this work on my 3 and 5 year old who share a room. Gave it a test run tonight….HOLY CRAP…it worked! Both were snoozing by 8:15…when many nights we are pushing 10….thank you thank you thank you for this! I will be going to bed earlier tonight and sleep so much better knowing my kids went to bed with me smiling, tucking them in, and smooching them! GOD BLESS YOU!

  6. It’s possible. Darn! I have to research that Badgoulian connection mentioned by Pereira 2005 as origin for the Magdalenian. I was persuaded that Magdalenian was a local Franco-Cantabrian developement (the consensus till some years ago), what basically forbade on archaeo-cultural grounds any LUP arrival from West Asia or even Eastern Europe but maybe it’s not the case after all. Has anybody some further info on this Badagoulian missing-link culture?

  7. I would rank Blyleven-Schilling-Mussina-Morris, but a strong case can be made for all those guys. Schilling is buoyed by his postseason record, but at his peak (when he was on the Roger Clemens “workout regimen”) he was the most dominant out of this group. He doesn’t have an overwhelming win total, but his ERA, strikeouts and WHIP are pretty strong. The main thing is Blyleven not being in. That’s just a crime.
